  We are here: News- Bee Buzz | Best exhibitors recognized during the closing ceremony of ApiExpo Africa 2016, Kigali - Rwanda

ApiTrade Africa in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (Rwanda) through its export development arm; National Agricultural Export Development Board, successfully held the 5th all-Africa international African honey industry exposition dubbed ApiExpo Africa 2016 in Kigali - Rwanda from 21st - 26th September 2016.

The closing ceremony's main highlight was the announcement of the 2016 Awards for Excellence winners. This was after a vigorous evaluation exercise by a team of 4 Judges; Theresa Omara-Achong (Nigeria), Kamurase Jean De Dieu (Rwanda), Negash Bekena (Ethiopia) and Phionah Birungi (Uganda). The categories evaluated included: Honey processors and packers, producer organizations (i.e. Cooperatives or Associations) and equipment manufacturers.

The award of the trophies was presided over by Jean Claude Kayisinga, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (Rwanda).

The criteria for awarding best exhibitors included: presentation that reflects the theme of the event, conformity of products to market standards, clarity in communication of message; message delivery from the booth by the attendants, creativity and innovations, availability of products in the market, impact; does the presentation thrill?, and customer care of the booth attendants. Over 70 business ventures from over 10 countries took part in ApiExpo Africa 2016 exhibitions.

Ubwiza bwa Nyungwe Beekeepers Union (Rwanda) excelled most among all other exhibitors; it emerged the Overall Best Exhibitor and was thus awarded with the most treasured trophy of these exhibitions. Ethiopian Honey & Beeswax Processors & Exporters Association was the 1st runner-up, Overall Best Exhibitor while 2nd runner-up, Overall Best Exhibitor position was taken by The Uganda National Apiculture Development Organization (TUNADO).

In the Honey processors and packers category, The Apiary Ltd Rwanda were the best exhibitors while Api Business Development Company Ltd (ABCD Ltd) and Sweet Maungwe Pvt Ltd (Zimbabwe) took 2nd and 3rd best places respectively.

The Hive Group (Rwanda) was best exhibitor in the equipment manufacturer category while Anhui Export Development Co. Ltd (China) and Swienty A/S and Swienty Commodities ApS (Denmark) came in 2nd and 3rd best place respectively.

In the category of producer organizations (i.e. Cooperatives or Associations), Ubwiza bwa Nyungwe Beekeepers Union (Rwanda) came second to none while Ethiopian Honey & Beeswax Processors & Exporters Association and Koperative Tubeho N’Ejo (Rwanda) took the 2nd best and 3rd best Exhibitor position respectively.
