Official Launch of national (Zimbabwe) mobilization campaign for ApiExpo Africa 2014

Zimbabwe officially launched the National Mobilization Campaign on the 19th of March 2014 for beekeepers and honey traders to participate in the forth-coming ApiExpo Africa 2014. The event took place at the Rainbow Towers Hotel and was officially launched by the Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, Dr J M Made.

The key dignitaries were from ApiTrade Africa, Government, quasi- government, farmer organisation, development partners, private sector, beekeepers associations and Non-Governmental Organisations.


The ApiExpo Launch was part of the promotion phase of ApiExpo Africa 2014. Considering that the event is the first of its kind in Zimbabwe, the Launch event was important in promoting awareness for the Expo and of the beekeeping industry and mobilizing stakeholders towards improved service delivery in the country.

The ApiExpo Africa 2014 launch helped to achieve the following:

  • It served as a platform for the official launch of national mobilization campaigns and provision of updates on progress made so far.
  • Outreach to a wider network of stakeholders and potential partners and their active support was solicited for the success of the event.
  • The awareness of stakeholders on the direct and cross cutting contribution of the beekeeping value chain including its significant role in poverty reduction, food security and environment and climate change mitigation.
  • Stakeholders were also brought to speed regarding the high potential of Zimbabwean beekeeping value chain in the development agenda of the country, especially given the actives roles played by women and youth.
  • Promoted the sense of ownership among amongst the different stakeholders which pertinent for a smooth implementation of ApiExpo Africa 2014.
  • Facilitated knowledge exchange and sharing of experiences which are a pre-cursor to a successful event.
